I am a Scottish artist living in London. I create artworks which integrate drawing, printmaking, painting and sculpture, using the drawn or painted line to explore my interests in repetition, chance and systems.

My practice takes inspiration from diverse subject matter including my professional background in environmental sustainability, and my experience as an improvisation-based musician. Through subtly varying colours, patterns and textures, I create abstract artworks which reflect upon the nature of composition, order and disruption both within art practice, and the landscapes upon which we depend.

The grid is a jumping off point for many of my artworks: it provides a formal structure to work within and a system to disrupt. Grids are ever present in our engagement with the environment, from the digital mapping of landscapes, to the plotting of graphs in order to monitor environmental change. However the natural world also exists outside of these systems of order and control.

The structures I create are lightweight and portable - employing materials which can be easily disassembled and transported. At times they follow a modular design, functioning as a variable system which can be reordered and responsive to the space. Through this process I generate my own form of map which sits somewhere between the planned and the spontaneous, helping to locate myself in a moment in time.
